Supporting You Through the Personal Affairs of a Loved One

Losing a family member or loved one is never easy, and dealing with their personal affairs can feel overwhelming. When someone passes away, their “estate”—comprising money, property, and possessions needs to be organised.

In most cases, a Grant of Representation (Grant of Probate) is required to process the estate. This may involve completing an inheritance tax return, even if no tax is due. Until the Grant is issued by the Probate Registry, assets in the estate may remain frozen.

Our probate team provides as much or as little assistance as you need, offering tailored services designed around your circumstances. We can help with:

  • Registering the death
  • Collecting in the financial details of the estate
  • Preparing the necessary HMRC forms
  • Preparing and submitting the application to obtain the Grant of Representation
  • Collecting in assets and paying liabilities of the estate
  • Preparing an easy-to-understand set of Estate Accounts
  • Advising on the use of Deeds of Variation
  • Handling the sale of any property or land owned by the deceased

Our experienced team can meet with you at either our Saxmundham or Woodbridge offices, guiding you through this difficult time with care, compassion, and professional support.

Typically, our firms’ fees start at £1,500 plus VAT.

Probate (non-taxable estate) £1,500 plus VAT

  • Preparing the Legal Statement with all information and values of assets and liabilities being provided by the Executors
  • Submission to the Probate Registry using the online portal.

Probate (including taxable estates and administering the estate)

‍Each person’s affairs are different and can include multiple assets and beneficiaries. We charge on a work done basis, not a percentage of the value of the estate, and will always be transparent about our charges. Our fees are calculated by reference to the time spent on the matter by members of our team. Details of the hourly rates of the relevant individuals will be specified at the outset.

We will always provide you with an estimate of our costs once we have the information required and will update you if for any reason our charges may change.

In both the above cases there is an additional fee payable to the Probate Registry for the Probate Application.

As of January 2026 this fee is £300 (+ £16 for each Office Copy required of the Grant of Probate) but this is subject to increase by the Ministry of Justice.
